British Council IDS Programme

We are proud to announce that our school has been awarded the coveted International Dimension in School Award (formerly, International School Award) conducted under the aegis of the British Council for the 3-year period 2022-2025.
Our dossier submitted under the scheme obtained the maximum possible score of 56.
The British Council has commended our school for the work done in our projects. They have praised them as excellent examples of collaborative work done on projects with an international dimension by our students and teachers with their counterparts in different countries. These projects showcased extensive research and work done by students and teachers both in India and overseas.

Covid 19 Pandemic

The Covid - 19 pandemic is the greatest challenge faced globally , in current times . Since its emergence , it has spread rapidly, becoming a shared human predicament . It has led to considerable human suffering and great loss of livelihood . As of now , there is no known cure for this illness and a vaccine remains the only ray of hope . We , at Purwanchal Vidyamandir are partnering with the CISCE to create awareness to combat the threat and challenges posed by this pandemic . Harnessing the creativity of our pupils , we aim to create a consciousness among people to bring about a change in attitudes and habits , to stop the spread of this deadly disease in the community.

Internationa Dimention in School

                      Purwanchal Vidyamandir is associated with Connecting Classrooms programme structured by the British Council, UK since 2013. The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities The Connecting Classrooms programme is a flagship enterprise by British Council to embed global dimension into curricula worldwide. The Connecting Classrooms programme provides a framework to implement activities of international concern for the pupils throughout the session. Pupils from Lower Infant to Class XII work on various projects that are specially designed for each class and guided by teacher co-ordinators. The programme has immensely helped our students to understand the importance of education through Global Learning with schools all over the world and to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes so as to thrive as a worthy individual global citizen. It has given us an opportunity to interact with overseas schools on creative teaching practices and real-time global learning.

We have created a place internationally through our exchange programme via our partner schools spread across countries such as Nepal,Greece, Kenya, South Korea, Bangladesh, USA and UK. Recently we have also linked up with schools from Taiwan, Nigeria,Netherland, Spain and Turkey. The Connecting Classrooms is more than just understanding global issues; it is about instilling both the teachers and students skills, potentials or the power to bring about a positive change in the world. At present the IDS (formerlyISA) –International Dimension in Schools Award, has its presence in 31 countries worldwide. It is indeed a great achievement for us as the proud recipient of winning this global recognition the prestigious IDS Award for three consecutive terms 2015-18, 2018- 21&2022-25. It has ignited the team-spirit and dedication in the teachers and students that has resulted in bringing this accolade and recognition to our Purwanchal Vidyamandir.

Under the leadership and guidance of our Principal, Mrs. Rani Jessica Gomes and her whole-hearted support of the international programme in school, we are developing and implementing international school programmes with partner schools through joint projects. The activities are designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and leadership qualities.
Since the commencement of the new academic session in April 2022, the students have started with renewed enthusiasm to work with partner schools of various countries and cultures through collaborative curriculum- based projects, across a wide range of subjects.We hope to work hard and have yet another successful year in building new global partnerships and sustaining the existing ones. Our school remains committed to inculcating internationalism in education and working with schools across continents that support global citizenship.

The Frank Anthony Debate

Our school hosted ‘The Frank Anthony Memorial All -India Inter School Debate Competition- 2019 Category -1, Stage-1. Seven schools participated in the event. The competition was judged by Dr. (Ms) S.D’Souza, Principal, The Salt Lake School, Mr. John Bagul, Principal, South City International School, Mr. Ian T. Myers, Principal, The Frank Anthony Public School, Kolkata.


Students of our school participated in the same competition organised by Delhi Public School,Newtown and Sri Sri Academy for Categories I and II respectively.

International Yoga Day

On 21st June 2022, International Yoga Day was celebrated by the students and teachers at Purwanchal Vidyamandir with great enthusiasm. Children observed and then displayed basic techniques of Yoga for Health, Yoga for Success, Yoga for Wellbeing, Yoga for peace and Yoga for Joy! Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. We at Purwanchal Vidyamandir believe that as Indians, we should be proud of our rich cultural heritage. The growing pressure in day-to-day life, peer pressure and meeting people’s expectations is very stressful for the students. Inculcating the habit of practicing yoga will have a positive effect on their physical and mental well-being. It will also aid in their creativity as yoga embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and action. Let us all make Yoga ‘A Way of Life!

Children’s Day Celebration

Children’s Day was celebrated in school with various activities for different classes. Classes Lower Infant to Class II participated in Fancy Dress. All students of Lower Infant were given gifts. Students of Upper Infant to Class II were given prizes for being in the first three positions. Students of Classes III, IV & V participated in NO-Fire Cooking and the best three entries were given certificates. Classes VI, VII, VIII & IX watched a screening of the popular inspirational film, ‘Super 30’.

Visit to the Rail Museum, Kolkata

Students of Classes III, IV and V visited -The Rail Museum, located in Howrah, Kolkata. The museum has evolved into a famous tourist destination in Kolkata. Students witnessed a vivid collection of preserved old and rare steam engines, electric locomotives, tracks and signals. The students thoroughly enjoyed a toy train ride which is a part of the rail museum. The museum provided them an enriching as well as an informative experience to help them understand and explore the history of Indian Railways as well as to enjoy their time with their class friends and teachers.

C-19 Vaccination Camp In School

The School Education Department of West Bengal had conducted special camps at five city schools to vaccinate the teaching and non-teaching staff of various schools that are under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area. Purwanchal Vidyamandir was one of them. The vaccine was provided free of cost by the KMC for this initiative.

The vaccination programme was held at the school auditorium in compliance with the Covid 19 protocols. Mr. Umesh Kedia (President, Purwanchal Nagarik Samity), Mr. Ramakant Beriwal( Convenor, Purwanchal Vidyamandir) and Mr. L.N Gupta (Co-Convenor, Purwanchal Vidyamandir) extended full assistance so that the inoculation be conducted properly. Our founder principal, Ms. Pushpita Barik supervised the entire procedure. A special vaccination team was deputed from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital for this purpose. On the first day, vaccines were given to staff of 13 city schools effectively. Members of 11 city schools received their first dose of Covishield vaccine on the second day of this enterprise.

Special Award for Academic Excellence

The pursuit of academic excellence is embedded within the very framework of academic integrity of the school which involves inculcating ethical values to maintain a good moral character. Our school Purwanchal Vidyamandir acquired recognition at national level due to the academic excellence of Raj Ghosh in the year 2019 when he scored 99.4 % marks in ICSE Examination. He secured the 2nd position at the national level and 1st position at the state level. He was felicitated by the Chief Minister of West Bengal at Netaji Indoor Stadium and awarded the Mamraj Agarwal Rashtriya Purashkar by the Governor of West Bengal at Raj Bhavan. Besides he had always been an active participant of a number of competitions and excelled in the same. A few of them are : the 2nd position at the 18th All Bengal English Spelling Competition 2016; 1st position in Mathematics Competition (Senior category) at Science and Technology Fair 2017 organized by West Bengal Vigyan Mancha in remembrance of Acharya Satyendranath Bose; 3rd position in National Essay Competition 2017.

Above all Raj is a very disciplined student and lives in accordance with conduct. He is truthful, generous, kind -hearted and optimistic. He has a quest for knowledge and a sound mind. He is full of humility and never knows what pride, conceit, vanity or selfishness is. His curious mind that always ventures to seek new things and learn about novel concepts will definitely enable him to be his own sunshine which will propel him towards success.
