The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations 1952-2022

River of Hope is a Thames Festival Trust programme delivered in partnership with the British Council, UK. In 2022, River of Hope formed a central part of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Through this programme young students from around the world have been encouraged to think about the importance of safeguarding the future of their own natural environment.

River of Hope is an arts-based learning project linking schools around the world through the study of rivers.

Our collaborative artwork was selected to be one of the 200 pieces featured as part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on the 5 th June 2022.

The artwork has been created collectively by students from England, Palestine and India. The three schools involved were The Premier Academy in UK, Fahma Girls' Secondary School in Palestine and Purwanchal Vidyamandir Kolkata, India. The UK school is connected with Purwanchal Vidyamandir, Kolkata thanks to the British Council Connecting Classrooms Programme.

Schools worked with their teachers and received packs from Thames Festival Trust Kate Forde, Head of Education & Engagement which promoted the use of art to teach environmental themes. The young students created imaginative pieces of artwork, using art and design skills and utilising either natural or recycled materials, while thinking about their hopes and aspirations for the next 70 years.

Inspiration came from the theme of keeping our rivers clean. The art work included paintings using water colours, sculpting clay, sewing, drawing and creating designs in 2-D and 3-D. The children worked independently and created artwork using their own ideas. They collaborated with each other and came up with some amazing work.
