25 Glorious Years Of PVM

Purwanchal Vidyamandir celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 9th July, 2023 at the Science City Auditorium with a grand cultural extravaganza marking a milestone since its foundation in 1998.

Over the years the school has impacted the lives of thousands of students helping them to achieve their potential. The students have brought laurels to the school not only in academics but also in various cocurricular activities.

                      Purwanchal Vidyamandir is associated with Connecting Classrooms programme structured by the British Council, UK since 2013. The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities The Connecting Classrooms programme is a flagship enterprise by British Council to embed global dimension into curricula worldwide. The Connecting Classrooms programme provides a framework to implement activities of international concern for the pupils throughout the session. Pupils from Lower Infant to Class XII work on various projects that are specially designed for each class and guided by teacher co-ordinators. The programme has immensely helped our students to understand the importance of education through Global Learning with schools all over the world and to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes so as to thrive as a worthy individual global citizen. It has given us an opportunity to interact with overseas schools on creative teaching practices and real-time global learning.

We have created a place internationally through our exchange programme via our partner schools spread across countries such as Nepal,Greece, Kenya, South Korea, Bangladesh, USA and UK. Recently we have also linked up with schools from Taiwan, Nigeria,Netherland, Spain and Turkey. The Connecting Classrooms is more than just understanding global issues; it is about instilling both the teachers and students skills, potentials or the power to bring about a positive change in the world. At present the IDS (formerlyISA) –International Dimension in Schools Award, has its presence in 31 countries worldwide. It is indeed a great achievement for us as the proud recipient of winning this global recognition the prestigious IDS Award for three consecutive terms 2015-18, 2018- 21&2022-25. It has ignited the team-spirit and dedication in the teachers and students that has resulted in bringing this accolade and recognition to our Purwanchal Vidyamandir.

Under the leadership and guidance of our Principal, Mrs. Rani Jessica Gomes and her whole-hearted support of the international programme in school, we are developing and implementing international school programmes with partner schools through joint projects. The activities are designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and leadership qualities.
Since the commencement of the new academic session in April 2022, the students have started with renewed enthusiasm to work with partner schools of various countries and cultures through collaborative curriculum- based projects, across a wide range of subjects.We hope to work hard and have yet another successful year in building new global partnerships and sustaining the existing ones. Our school remains committed to inculcating internationalism in education and working with schools across continents that support global citizenship.

Display of Creativity at Purwanchal Vidyamandir

Purwanchal Vidyamandir organized its Art and Craft Exhibition 2025 on 27 th and 28th January 2025, in the school auditorium. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr Pulak Kumar Das, Lecturer of the Art Department of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.

Principal Ms Rani Jessica Gomes welcomed the Chief Guest and felicitated him. She stated that each exhibit on display represented an imaginative recreation which was inspired by commonplace everyday objects. She added that the articles on display were made by students through the year under the able guidance of their teachers.

The event, a celebration of the creativity of young minds, showcased the remarkable artistic talents of the students of Primary and Senior school.

The Eco Club envisioning the motto of reduce, reuse and recycle, displayed things made out of waste materials. The objects were creatively conceived and deftly made by the students of the Art and Craft club.

The International Dimension in Schools and the Global School Alliance counter displayed the exchanges of the school with other international schools from a range of countries. Greeting cards, gifts and letters received from various countries like Turkey, UK, Taiwan, South Korea, Nepal, Spain, Greece, Nigeria, Uganda and Kazakhstan among others were on view giving an international flavour to the event.

All in all, the Art Exhibition 2025 was a brilliant example of the committed work of the students who were led by their teachers to create beauty. It was a great success and was widely appreciated by the attendees.

Investiture Ceremony- July 2024

It was a proud moment for all the students to witness their fellow mates being invested with great responsibilities while embarking on a new journey as leaders.

The newly elected student council members pledged to work earnestly and uphold the honour and glory of the institution while receiving their prestigious house flag, badge and sash from the Principal.

The Head Boy, Head Girl, Sports Captains and House Captains stood tall while holding the flags of PVM as destiny prepared itself to bring in many more laurels to the institution.

The Principal, Ms. Rani Jessica Gomes motivated the children to keep moving forward despite all the obstacles and challenges that life throws in front of them. She said that being a leader is a vital role and that the new Student Council would have ample responsibilities to shoulder.

Celebrating the poet, the thinker, the dreamer-Rabindranath Tagore

On 9th May 2025, the students of Purwanchal Vidyamandir celebrated Rabindra Jayanti to mark the birth anniversary of the great Bengali poet and Nobel Laureate—Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. This year marks the 164th of his birth anniversary. The day is also popularly called ‘Pochishe Boishakh’.

A vibrant cultural programme was held at our school auditorium to pay tribute to the Nobel laureate's rich literary and artistic legacy. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from students and teachers. The Chief Guest for the day was the eminent Rabindra Sangeet singer and well-known ENT specialist Mr Sreekumar Chattopadhayay.

The programme commenced with the soulful rendition of a Tagore song by the teachers, leaving a lasting impression on all those present.

Next was the welcome address by the school principal, Ms. Rani Jessica Gomes, which highlighted Tagore's multifaceted genius and the enduring relevance of his works. A floral tribute was offered to Kabiguru by the Chief Guest and the other distinguished guests present. The Chief Guest encouraged the students with kind words. He enthralled the audience by singing two wonderful songs written by Rabindranath Tagore. A senior student delivered a speech on Tagore to acquaint the audience with his life and his achievements.

The highlights of the day were a play and a dance drama. ‘Suyoranir Sadh’ adapted from one of Tagore’s short stories, the play showcased the young actors' talent and their ability to breathe life into the characters. The performance resonated with the audience, leaving them with valuable messages about humanity and compassion, themes central to Tagore's writings. The dance drama “Pratyusha” was staged by the primary school students. The play was scripted by our teacher Ms Soma Paul. The play depicted the all-encompassing presence and the divine touch of the bard of Bengal in reconstructing the shattered life of a charming little girl and her love towards Tagore.

Interspersed between these performances was the recitation of a Tagore poem by a senior student. Her confident delivery showcased her deep appreciation for the poet's work.

The school took this opportunity to felicitate two teachers of the school on the publication of their book of short stories and on AI research work.

The Rabindranath Tagore birth anniversary celebrations at Purwanchal Vidyamandir proved to be a platform for young talents to showcase their artistic abilities while fostering a deeper appreciation for India's rich cultural heritage. Principal Ms Rani Jessica Gomes acknowledged the hard work of the students in their performances and efforts of teachers. Also, emphasized the importance of promoting cultural awareness and appreciation of Tagore’s legacy with today’s generation.

Sports Meets-2024 of Purwanchal Vidyamandir

The air was filled with the sounds of laughter , cheers, and the occasional roar as Purwanchal Vidyamandir hosted its Junior Sports Meet-2024 themed Jungle Safari at Nabanna Uddyan. The event held on 13 th December,2024 was a vibrant spectacle of athletic prowess and playful exuberance.

Young athletes dressed as various jungle creatures paraded through the field for different events.

The winners of the field events were awarded medals and certificates.

The Senior Sports Meet was held with great enthusiasm on 17 th December at the East Calcutta District Sports Council Ground. Ballons of all the four houses representing their hopes and aspirations were released into the sky and added a festive touch to the occasion. Special awards were given to the students who has excelled in sports events at the city, state, zone and national levels.

Principal Ms Rani Jessica Gomes expressed her belief that more and more students would be drawn to sports after participating in games and experiencing the thrill of competition and team-work.

Celebration of Learning

Saraswati Puja was celebrated on 3rd February, 2025 at Purwanchal Vidyamandir with great divinity and fervour. The decorated school foyer looked resplendent and greeted visitors with a burst of colours.
Students were invited to be a part of the Saraswati Puja celebration and they came dressed in traditional attire The priest carried out all the rites and rituals to start the puja. The Primary students’ school choir dressed in their yellow sarees, sang the Saraswati Vandana and enthralled the audience. All the students participated in the puja with great devotion in the chanting of mantras invoking the goddess of learning. The ex-students also visited the school to relive their old memories and be a part of the celebration. The atmosphere was full of enthusiasm and excitement as students mingled with their old teachers and went down memory lane.
Principal Ms Rani Jessica Gomes remarked, “Saraswati Puja celebration in school is a great opportunity for students to energize themselves and commit themselves to the pursuit of learning.”

Teachers’ Day and Auditorium Inauguration held on 5 th September 2024

Purwanchal Vidyamandir witnessed a momentous occasion with the inauguration of its renovated, state-of-the-art auditorium. The event coincided with Teachers’ Day celebrations, making it a double cause for cheer. The auditorium, a masterpiece of modern technology boasts of advanced sound and lighting systems, a multipurpose stage and comfortable seating. It offers a soothing ambience for a superior experience. The ceremonial lamp was lit and the ribbon cut by the Guest of Honour Mr. Subhash Agarwal, noted entrepreneur and philanthropist. This was followed by a rapturous applause as the gathering entered the auditorium. The invocation to Lord Ganesha, the God of auspicious beginnings marked the onset. Principal Ms. Rani Jessica Gomes expressed her gratitude to the School Managing Committee for their far-sightedness and their generous support in making this ambitious project a reality. She emphasized the importance of such infrastructure in providing students with a stimulating learning environment while providing space for academic and cultural events.

The Teachers’ Day celebrations began with the Principal’s address emphasizing the vital role of teachers in nurturing young minds and in creating all professionals. The teachers and staff were honoured for their dedication and contributions to the school’s growth and success. Eight staff members including teachers were honoured with a cash award for their 25 long and committed years of service to the institution. The felicitation was followed by a celebration lunch. The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone present with a sense of pride and anticipation for the exciting times ahead for Purwanchal Vidyamandir.
